Definition
Decentralized Application. A software application whose backend runs on a decentralized blockchain network rather than a centralized server. dApps use smart contracts to operate without a central operator.
Why It Matters
dApps give users direct access to blockchain-based services without intermediaries. They represent the front-end of Web3 — wallets, DeFi platforms, NFT marketplaces, and games.
Example
Uniswap is a dApp — you connect your MetaMask wallet directly to the application and trade tokens without the app holding your funds.
