Hash Rate

Definition

The total computational power being used to mine and process transactions on a Proof of Work blockchain. Measured in hashes per second.

Why It Matters

Hash rate indicates the security and health of a Proof of Work network. Higher hash rates mean the network is more secure against attacks.

Example

Bitcoin's hash rate exceeded 400 EH/s (exahashes per second) in 2023, indicating strong network security.
