Definition
The smallest unit of Bitcoin, equal to 0.00000001 BTC (one hundred-millionth of a Bitcoin). Named after Bitcoin's pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. Also called 'sats'.
Why It Matters
You don't need to buy a whole Bitcoin. Satoshis allow anyone to own a fraction — making Bitcoin accessible at any price level.
Example
If Bitcoin is worth $60,000, one satoshi is worth $0.0006. Buying $60 of Bitcoin gives you 100,000 satoshis.
